It certainly does, even if it's not hurt from a romantic relationship but just a toxic group dynamic. I begin to understand why some people return to toxic or abusive relationships. Often it occupied such a large portion of their life that when it's gone, they feel cut adrift and lost. If the toxic person turns up and sweet talks them, they may well return because it feels familiar, it's what they know. In a sense, they know the rules.
