Time-Lapse of Me Watching "Crazy Rich Asians" Opening Weekend

I thought I was too old to cry at a romantic comedy and I am.

But I still walked out of the theater, sobbing. I wasn't crying for anything that happened in the movie. It was more like why I cried for Killmonger's tortured character in Marvel's Black Panther: they were tears of recognition.

It's a feeling related to this old cartoon. Representation matters.

Not everybody's going to cry. Crazy Rich Asians is a super fun, high-fashion, foodie crowd-pleaser, but there's a special wink-nod in the movie for Asians who grew up in the West. Thanks to Jon M. Chu, Kevin Kwan, and the crazy beautiful cast and crew.

If you can, check it out this opening weekend. Hoping its success opens doors for more diverse stories to be told.
